He slumped onto the park bench, the worn leather creaking in protest. Thomas hadn't felt fully present in what felt like forever. The city noises buzzed around him, a constant, irritating hum that grated on his nerves. The letter lay open in his lap, the stark words - "We have located your father's other child..." - refusing to dissolve in his mind.

He ran a hand through his tangled hair, the simple act demanding more effort than it should. The sun, finally dipping below the horizon, cast long shadows, but they couldn't obscure the weight in his chest. A younger sister. He should feel something, anything. Just...emptiness. He was too drained to even process the information.
